About

My name is Cindy Desmet. I was born at Grossmont Hospital a few years ago (let’s just say my mom shopped at Food Basket and I roller skated a few times at Aquarius Roll-A-Rena…) I grew up in local schools and then began a journey which would take me to San Luis Obispo, Boston, and finally France for the better part of my adult life. When I was a kid I was blissfully unaware that I lived in one of the nicest places on earth. I ran around barefoot. I rode my bike until dinnertime. I camped at the beach every summer. I ate strawberries out of the garden until I hated them. I had nothing to compare to, so maybe that’s why I thought it was normal. Maybe that’s also why I thought it was boring. And maybe that’s just part of growing up — having the urge to strike out and away from where we are, to see what’s out in that wide world and compare it to what we already know. I have many fond memories of the places I’ve lived, of the people I’ve met, and the different ways of thinking and doing that I’ve encountered. It’s made me far more curious about where I am, no matter where that is. What is interesting is to be back in La Mesa, and to see it like I never saw it before. I wanted to write a blog that would express and share my view of this wonderful place. I hope you enjoy it.

  3. Love this whole idea! You are so right about taking La Mesa for granted…I did too! My mom is still in the house I grew up in, and I still love going there to visit not only her, but LaMesa!!! It still has so much charm and everything at your fingertips. Thanks for doing this. Really, Cindy. :-)

  4. Hi Cindy,
Congratulations on” La Mesa Living.” We are enjoying it and look forward to future issues.
What a terrific time we had yesterday. A unique concept to us. We especially enjoyed Lois and Lars and hearing your rendition of “Let the Sun Shine on San Diego.” We look forward to next year. Thank you, Gary and Karen
